So here I am in the South Island...I really don't have anything to write about. I'm chilling in Christchurch for a week and then I'm going to take the TransAlpine railway over to a town called Greymouth. From there I will rent a car and drive all around the South Island. There are plenty of things to see, like the glaciers, the fjords, snow, etc. I'm excited to meet up with Summer in exactly one month!
When I packed for this trip I really only brought clothes for tropical, summer weather. Yesterday, Christchurch was HOT. I got some sun even! Today is like a cold spring or fall day, and windy. It feels about 60 degrees. So I wore my little light cotton poncho with my light scarf and was pretty cold. I want to buy a New Zealand possum/wool sweater as a souvenir, so I think I'll do that, but it costs so much money to send stuff home. I mailed a box to my house and it was $50US. But freed up lots of space and weight. So if I buy a sweater I'll most likely have to haul it around with me through sweltering-hot Thailand and SE Asia. These things cause me much stress.
Different things used to stress me out. Real things. Now life is pretty 'cruisy', which is New Zealander for 'easy'. My main concerns now aren't really real. Basically I'm just sick of my clothes. I'm getting lots of sleep, plenty to eat...meeting new people. This is the life. I'm really hoping I can figure out a way to remain unemployed for the rest of my life. If you have any ideas or suggestions, without using the "marry a rich man" cop-out, please post them under comments.
I'm wondering if a rich man would put up with you anyway so you're right, you'll have to come up with some other way to stay unemployed and fed.
rob a bank like uncle archie. just don't get caught like uncle archie. aaron
Who's uncle archie? I have a good idea. Become a writer or proffesional hotel tester or something and then you will be getting paid to do what you want which is better than being unemployed.
A hotel tester....now that's the ticket. Hanna, I like how you think.
Yeah! Instead of a 'secret shopper' you could be a 'secret vacationer'.
My friend lives out of a suitcase as a flight attendant. He travels to all over the world and takes nearly every weekend to himself, seeing the sites from Rome to Alaska. He stores his stuff with family and the pay is enough to crash on other people's couches for short periods when he is in the states. He basically treats them like a hostel and pays them just a bit to not wear out his welcome. Although he is in the sky so much it rarely happens. He gets a four and five day weekend based on his schedule, like once a month, and relaxes on beaches in South America. If you need digs, rent out your place and act as a roomie to whomever you're renting to. Tell them you won't be home much but will basically just be crashing when you do and not be a burden. You can't live the life for long, but could do it for a couple of years until the travel bug wears you out.
ooh! good ideas!!!
Just a thought.. you could capitilize on your writing skills. I love reading your blog. You tell the stories and make me laugh - two of the most important things for an author to do! Maybe a book? Travel articles, you get the idea! Wish I knew a publisher! Thank you for keeping me entertained. Amy F.
