No matter what beach you visit, in no matter which country, you'll always see one of these dudes. Their occupation hobby drives me crazy. Just how much money/jewelry would you have to find to make up for the loss in dignity? Just walking around in full view of the public looking for money, being judged by jerks like me who prefer to look for money a little more clandestinely.
This guy in particular was really interesting to watch. He was incredibly organized and drew squares in the sand and excavated them in order, taking his time to slowly examine every shovelful of sand, checking and rechecking it with his metal detector. I was walking around the beach taking pictures and was SO tempted to drop a pound coin in one of his unexcavated squares to see if he found it, but I kinda felt like he would see me do it and I didn't want to get caught mocking him.

I really wanted Larry to tell you all the advantages of BEING 'one of those guys'. He's been wanting one for ages! But can't quite pry his fingers loose from around his cash.
